Application Procedures:
Step 1: Applicants must submit an initial application to the Research Grants Council (RGC) through the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) Electronic System to obtain an HKPFS reference number by 1 December 2025 at Hong Kong Time 12:00 (GMT+8 hours).
Step 2: Applicants must submit full application(s) and pay the application fee to PolyU via RPgAdmission System, select “2026/27 Semester 1 (Sep 2026 Entry)” with the HKPFS reference number by 1 December 2025, HKT 23:59 (GMT+8 hours).

We (PolyU) offer:

• Research Excellence Scholarship: in the form of a tuition fee waiver;
• guaranteed hall accommodation for 2 years;
• the 4th year stipend/allowance with the same provision, if required;
• an annual stipend of HK$340,800 (~US$43,692) for the entire normal study period; and
• a yearly allowance of HK$14,200 (~US$1,820) per year for conference and research related travel allowance for a maximum period of three years;
• HK$40,000 (~US$5,120) for the first year, and HK$20,000 (~US$2,560) per year from the second year to the end of the normal study period.

Who can apply for:

• the applicant shall finish the study of Bachelor before September 2026 (Year 4 students) with high GPA and ranking in class;
• the applicant shall finish the study of Master before September 2026, with high GPA and ranking in class including Bachelor’s study;
• the applicant who do not have a degree for which English was the language of instruction at a recognized university shall have a qualified TOEFL or IELTS score. The minimum requirements are: an overall score of at least 6.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 80 or above for the Internet-based test. All English language test scores are considered valid for two years after the date of the test.
• the applicant with strong backgrounds in Mechanics, Physics and Mathematics is most preferable.
