We were pleased to host Prof. Liang Cheng, “Xinshi” Professor and Head of the School of Marine Science and Engineering at South China University of Technology. His research has made significant contributions to vortex-induced vibrations, fluid-structure-seabed interactions, and on‑bottom stability of offshore pipelines. In this seminar, Prof. Cheng presented recent discoveries from an Australian Research Council project on how a cylinder oscillating in steady currents alters its wake and hydrodynamic forces—a key challenge for predicting loads on marine risers and cylindrical structures.
