Each applicant is allowed to make one initial application only to the Research Grants Council (RGC) through the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) Electronic System to obtain a HKPFS reference number by 1 December 2022 at Hong Kong Time 12:00 (GMT+8 hours). Submit a full application and pay the application fee, via eAdmission System on or before 1 December 2023 at Hong Kong Time 23:59 (GMT +8 hours), by quoting the HKPFS reference number. Please check:

We (PolyU) offer:

• tuition waiver scholarship for the entire normal study period; and guaranteed hall accommodation for 2 years;
• the 4th year stipend/allowance with the same provision, if required;
• in addition to what is offered by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong;
• a monthly stipend of HK$26,900 (US$3,450) for the entire normal study period; and
• a yearly allowance of HK$13,500 (US$1,730) per year for conference and research related travel allowance for a maximum period of three years;
• associated money to support research study per normal study year: HK$20,000 (US$2,560).

Who can apply for:

• the applicant shall finish the study of Bachelor before September 2022 (Year 4 students) with high GPA and ranking in class;
• the applicant shall finish the study of Master before September 2022, with high GPA and ranking in class including Bachelor’s study;
• the applicant shall have a qualified TOEFL or IELTS score. The minimum requirements are: IELTS >= 6.5 (>= 6.0 for writing); or TOEFL >=80 (>=23 for writing) for internet-based test; or TOEFL >=550 for paper-based test; or exempted for candidates who have obtained a degree awarded by institutions where the medium of instruction was English; All English language test scores are considered valid for two years after the date of the test.
• the applicant with strong backgrounds in Mechanics, Physics and Mathematics is most preferable.
