Time passing by, we have concluded ten highlights of 2021. This year, we have a lot of new members and also new challenges and chances. Hope we can achieve more in the coming new year.

1. Dr. Qi ZHANG was the first one who received the PolyU Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme and was recommended to Research Grants Council Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme in CEE Department.

2. The application of the NSFC-RGC joint research scheme (30 projects in total for Hong Kong) cooperating with Institute of Mechanics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences has been approved and officially commenced.

3. “International workshop of smart infrastructure development towards smart city” has been successfully organized and held online.

4. New equipment arrived! Multi-functional soil-structure interface testing apparatus, and soil-pile interaction model testing apparatus.

5. 10 research articles have been selected as ESI papers (highly cited papers and hot papers) by web of science.

6. Our group published three research articles on the top journal “Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering (CMAME, IF=6.76)”.

7. “Constitutive Theory of Granular Soils and Application” (《粒状土力学本构理论及应用》) was published by China Architecture & Building Press.

8. ErosMLM platform, which is used to predict soil mechanical properties based on machine learning, was developed for use.

9. Our visiting scholar Dr. Jun-Xiu LIU was promoted to be in charge of Research Office of Anhui Jianzhu University.

10. Our visiting scholar Dr. Pei ZHANG from the Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture has successfully finished her academic exchange program.
